Footnote in Claude

Ask Claude whether a job offer is fair, and it can check the offer against the pay the employer certified to the U.S. Department of Labor — and look up the employer’s layoff notices. Free, no account.

Add it

  1. In Claude, open Settings → Connectors, search for Footnote, and select Connect.
  2. Not listed for you yet? Choose Add custom connector and paste this address:https://usefootnote.com/api/public/mcp
  3. Ask about an offer, an employer’s pay, or its layoffs. Claude calls Footnote when the question needs it.

Any app that supports remote MCP connectors can use the same address (Streamable HTTP, no authentication).

What it can do

Check a job offer
check_job_offer

Compares an offer's base salary with the pay the employer certified to the U.S. Department of Labor for that role, and gives a coarse read of the company's financial health from its SEC filings. Returns the certified median for the role and area and where the offer sits, in words.

“Is a $185,000 base offer for a software engineer at Meta in Seattle fair?”

Employer pay by role
get_employer_pay

Lists the base-pay bands by role (25th percentile, median, 75th percentile) an employer certified in its H-1B wage filings, for the employers with a public Footnote pay page.

“What does Microsoft pay data scientists, according to its certified filings?”

Employer layoff notices
get_layoff_notices

Lists the WARN Act layoff notices an employer filed with U.S. states — date, state, city, workers affected and the official source — for the last 24 months by default.

“Has Intel filed WARN layoff notices in the last year?”

Every answer names its source: certified H-1B Labor Condition Application wage filings (U.S. Department of Labor), SEC filings, and state WARN Act notices. See sources and methodology.

What Footnote receives, and keeps

A tool receives only what it needs to answer: the company, role, U.S. state and, if you share it, the offered salary. Footnote uses them to answer and does not keep the role, state or salary. We record which tool ran and whether it succeeded — and, if a company-name lookup fails on our side, the company name, so we can fix it. Footnote never sees your conversation, and nothing is shared with employers or advertisers. Details: privacy policy.

Limits

The connector is free and needs no account. At busy times it may ask you to try again in a minute. Pay figures are base salary only; layoff coverage follows each state’s WARN thresholds, so no notice is not proof of no layoffs.
